I've been wanting to paint this piece forever. I painted it from a photograph taken by my good friend and photographer Susan Teare several years ago. The atmospheric quality of her photo, Camel's hump in the distance, with the trees silhouetted in the foreground make for an interesting composition. But it is the overall tonal quality that I wanted to capture, where the dawn light infuses itself into the entire landscape. This is one of may favorite paintings.
