Spring paintings are difficult in Vermont as the typical "spring" months are full of mud, rain, and little color. And then, in the span of just a few short weeks, the leaves burst out, the grass grows faster than you can mow it, and dandelions bloom in every open field. Thank goodness for the dandelions as the amount of green in those first few weeks overwhelms the landscape, limiting the opportunities for good paintings. That burst of yellow provides a nice relief and lifts many a landscape.
Having a red barn in the picture also helps to provide a bright contrast to the green of the leaves and grasses, and this little farm along route 14 outside of Randolf provided just enough interest to complete this composition.
