“Matriarchal Ancestors” is part of the “One Life” series, which are artworks utilizing historical imagery in themes of family life, childhood and self reflection. I used transfer techniques, pen and pencil adapting and altering images of myself and of my mother. My heritage is European and English and Scottish in the matriarchal lineage. The women descending from my female relatives were educators, farmers, merchants and homemakers. They were humorous, strict and sometimes angry women. This piece is a compilation of historical images of my mother inspired by her death in 2017.
