I am an artist with 45 years of creating, producing six art series in photography, transfer prints, ink drawings, mixed media, digital media, and video. Each series corresponds to a distinct time in my life, intertwined and drawing from events, feelings, and my desire to tell a visual story.
What I offer is what I live. My series connect my lived experiences as aging woman, lesbian, disabled cancer and assault survivor, botanist, animal lover, athlete, or planetary human being. I am human artist, and my life is my art.
I am an industrious, adventurous, emotional, and devoted art maker, interested in artistic media and techniques that I combine with a drive to learn, integrate, and enliven my art practice. These traits are exemplified by my moving from 35+ years of analogue art making into iPhone and iPad mobile app-driven device creating.
Being an artist is my life. I develop wonderful pieces, share, and communicate. Through artistic invention while being honest about who I am and through what I offer, I show up for myself and for the world. Producing art that expresses a human condition, also carries meaning for family, friends, neighbors, community, and the larger society. As I visually demonstrate who I am, truthfully explore what is me, I promote understanding. I do this in my current self-reflective digital art layered pieces “Portrait of a Woman” project developed to dispel my own alarming aging cultural beliefs. These digital artworks are offered to stir thoughts and conversations about who we are as aging women. Through layered self-portrait interpretations, symbols, and textures I present alternate ideas about being female and aging in US culture.
My 2022 goals are to continue and expand my digital and video skills as I collaborate and create with artists locally and globally, connecting with community and offering what I make to the world.
Statement
My art is sharing my earthly human journey. What I live is what I create through truthful art making using my aging, female life.
I produce contemplative digital images and videos embracing a life connected to our shared worldly wonders. My perspective looks inward to self and outward toward the greater world.
I am inspired by both the simplicity and complexity of our beloved world. I work in common bond with other artists, motivated to evoke an art filled consciousness.
My life is my art. I use what I live to create a lifelong truthful and meditative art. My artwork is an expression of love for self and earth.
