Painted at Edisto Island, SC during the Edisto Art Guild’s Plein Air Paint Out October 2025. The inspiration was found at Townsend Clarkson’s beautiful home on Middleton Point. There were massive and majestic oaks filled with silvery Spanish moss, lush marshes, boats, waterfowl and chartreuse green marsh grasses to paint.
Here in this piece I painted those gorgeous chartreuse grasses and one of the herons I saw flying around during the day. It was early morning and the light was so soft it was as if there was the most violety, blue veil of light draped over the trees just before the sun popped above the treeline! I tried to capture that light here.
There was so much subject matter there it was quite overwhelming trying to figure out what to paint. I wanted to paint it all!
