My art practice challenges social and linguistic constructs in the United States through precisely crafted artworks organized into collections.
MessageOne of twelve works in the series, In Place investigates what it means to occupy a position—physically, emotionally, or socially. To be “in place” can suggest belonging, safety, and stability, yet it can just as easily imply confinement, surveillance, or imposed order. This tension shapes the series, where shadows from sculptural figures are transformed into stark, fragmented silhouettes. Body parts are isolated and enlarged, rendered as bold black forms that hover between presence and absence. Using charcoal, oil stick, and everyday cosmetics—lipstick and eyeliner—the work reclaims materials tied to bodily adornment, turning them into tools of mark-making. This choice blurs the line between body and image, intimacy and abstraction, translating three-dimensional form into flat, graphic gestures that hold viewers in a charged space between figure and void.
