My interdisciplinary practice investigates the social and linguistic constructs that shape identity, history, and collective memory in the United States.
MessageFive weathered shipping pallets form a platform beneath a single suspended light bulb. At the side rests Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents by Isabel Wilkerson, the catalyst for this work. While reading, the image of stacked pallets emerged as a metaphor for the United States: a structure built layer upon layer, where some are elevated while others bear the weight below. The light suggests the possibility of recognition rather than resolution.
The installation invites us to look deeply at the systems of hierarchy we have inherited, constructed, and sustained, recognizing that the structure must first be made visible before it can be reimagined.
