The markings in "Hieroglyph" are reminiscent of cave markings by early humans as a contemplation of our coexistence with nature in ancient times. The interior and exterior gilding represent a certain "evolution" with a nod to the Egyptians who used gold leaf as far back as 3000 BC.

The brass gilding in this piece is an alloy that will age over many years. The effect is intentional to reflect evolution and the natural cycles of nature.
