"Dance on a Volcano" was inspired by the 1976 Genesis song of the same name. The piece was created by Serena Kovalosky as an exploration of the fire element during the U.S. economic crash of 2008 which deepened artist's preoccupation with the social-ecological changes taking place since the early 2000s, impact on the environment and society's reaction to global change.

The brass gilding in this piece is an alloy that will age over many years. The effect is intentional to reflect the ephemeral and destructive nature of fire.
