I wanted to capture my daughter, Zelda’s, eye and see how far I could go using charcoal to do it. I applied charcoal using various techniques to capture the range of values and different textures of her skin, hair, and eyeball. I blocked in much of the values of the skin and around the eye upfront and spent hours meticulously capturing her iris, the reflection of the landscape in her eyes, and the wetness of her eyeball and tear duct. This piece really highlights my attention to details and technical skills.
