After living in Germany for 3 years and coming back home via Seattle, WA, the stark contrast on how the government and even citizens treat their own brothers and sisters was huge. I wanted to highlight one of the many factors to Seattle’s complicated homeless issue being gentrification. As larger tech companies call the Seattle area their home, it attracts higher paid workers which, in turn, inspires landlords to artificially increase rent forcing long- time Seattleites out of their homes and even jobs as the cost-of-living increases and other businesses cannot keep up.
