'Tied Up' holds a special place in my heart as it represents a unique exploration of kink and sensuality through art. The natural frame perfectly complements the theme, mirroring the earthy tones of the rope used in the piece. I took great care in hand-painting delicate vines and flowers onto the frame with acrylic paint, adding real pressed flowers to bring the floral design to life. Sealing the entire frame was essential to ensure the longevity of the flowers and the integrity of the artwork.
Moving onto the canvas, I wanted the subject to stand out without overwhelming the intricate details of the frame. Using acrylic paint, I created a simple background that allowed the next step to shine. With a precision knife, I delicately sliced thin holes in the canvas, ensuring they were just the right size to weave the rope through.
Weaving the rope through the canvas was both challenging and rewarding. It required precision and patience to achieve the 'Tied Up' look I had envisioned. Seeing it come together exactly as I imagined was incredibly satisfying; it's not always easy for ideas to translate seamlessly from mind to reality.
What I love most about this piece is its exploration of kink in a way that is both delicate and beautiful. The addition of flowers symbolizes the idea that, when approached with care and consent, every kink can be a form of art. 'Tied Up' challenges perceptions, inviting viewers to see the beauty in something that may be misunderstood or overlooked.
These pieces, along with a couple of others in this collection, represent my latest creative endeavors, born from the exciting opportunity to exhibit at The Super Naughty Show in Toronto. When I received the invitation, I was both thrilled and apprehensive. The name alone suggests a bold, provocative atmosphere, quite different from the usual art venues I frequent. But as an artist, I believe in pushing boundaries and exploring new territories. So, I embraced the challenge wholeheartedly, diving into themes and imagery that are a bit out of my comfort zone. The process was exhilarating yet nerve-wracking; I found myself questioning whether my work would resonate in such a risqué setting. However, amidst the excitement and uncertainty, I remained committed to staying true to my artistic vision. While these pieces may push the envelope, they still carry the essence of my message: one of self-love and identity exploration. Through them, I aim to spark conversations about personal empowerment and acceptance, even in the midst of taboo or controversial subjects. So, while stepping into this 'naughty' realm may be unfamiliar territory for me, I'm confident that my art will speak volumes about the beauty of embracing one's true self.
