In 2014 when I turned 60 on January 1st, I had the bright idea that I would do a journal quilt once a week. I made it through 10 weeks and then dropped the project. Now that I am in the last year of my 60’s, I am determined to complete the project or at least add to it. I named the series “In the Moment in My Sixties”. Each quilt represents what was on my mind the day I made it.
On the day I made “In the Moment in My Sixties #4”, I was still shell shocked by having been stranded in one of the worse snow storms EVER in Atlanta! I was trying to get home from my job at the DeKalb County Attorney’s office and ended up being trapped in my car for 12 hours. Ultimately, I walked the last 2 miles to get home. It was one of the worst days of my life.
The quilt is gray. I embellished it with crystals to try to capture the snow. I added a rainbow star in the left top corner to symbolize that even on your worst day, better days are ahead.
The quilt is embellished with charms, buttons and words. I signed and dated it on the front.
The back of the quilt is a teal and purple batik. There is a hanging sleeve on the back for easy display and a label that documents the quilt.
