Part of the Ollin Yoliztli Calaca Series. Masks created over the duration of 3-4 years. While creating this collection, the artist developed and perfected his own style of painting for the calaca masks.
Ollin Yoliztli is a Phoenix based dance group that performs traditional Mexican Folklore dances. Cultural Coalition has partnered with them for decades, educating the public and keeping Mexican traditions alive within the community.
Mask base painted in off-white. Green, pink, and purple primary color scheme, with blue, orange, and red secondary colors. Top border of eyes painted in purple. Purple raindrop shape on the center of the forehead. Green lines on the forehead and chin. Pink, swirly lines on the cheeks. Outer border of teeth outlined in pink, with inner borders outlined in red. Blue nose tip. Short, orange, brush stoked above the teeth.
