Part of the Ollin Yoliztli Calaca Series. Masks created over the duration of 3-4 years. While creating this collection, the artist developed and perfected his own style of painting for the calaca masks.
Ollin Yoliztli is a Phoenix based dance group that performs traditional Mexican Folklore dances. Cultural Coalition has partnered with them for decades, educating the public and keeping Mexican traditions alive within the community.
Mask base painted in off-white. Purple, yellow, blue, and orange color scheme. Blue star shaped border around the eyes, outlined in purple. Purple swirly lines on the forehead, cheek, and chin, Inner swirls on forehead, cheeks, and chin painted yellow. Short, orange brush stroke marks on forehead, cheeks, and chin. Outer border of teeth outlined in pink, inner border outlined in purple. Silver gems on the the cheeks and sides of forehead. Orange gem on the center of forehead.
