Part of the Ollin Yoliztli Calaca Series. Masks created over the duration of 3-4 years. While creating this collection, the artist developed and perfected his own style of painting for the calaca masks.
Ollin Yoliztli is a Phoenix based dance group that performs traditional Mexican Folklore dances. Cultural Coalition has partnered with them for decades, educating the public and keeping Mexican traditions alive within the community.
Mask base painted in off-white. Green and pink primary color scheme, with blue and orange secondary details. Forehead and chin painted with triangular shaped lines in orange and pink. Swirly green lines on cheeks, with orange dot on each cheek. Three fourths of the eye borders painted in blue. Short, orange, brush stroke marks above and below the teeth.
