Part of the Ollin Yoliztli Calaca Series. Masks created over the duration of 3-4 years. While creating this collection, the artist developed and perfected his own style of painting for the calaca masks.
Ollin Yoliztli is a Phoenix based dance group that performs traditional Mexican Folklore dances. Cultural Coalition has partnered with them for decades, educating the public and keeping Mexican traditions alive within the community.
Calaca mask with off-white painted base. Short, thin lines painted all over in blue, pink, orange, and purple. Purple eyebrows. Thicker blue lines painted above the eyes. Nose outlined in purple in addition to the teeth. Outer border of teeth repainted over in pink. Short, thin, orange brush strokes above and below the teeth.
