Las Calacas Coronas (2 of 4)
Clay molded mask, cast in fiberglass.
Calaca mask surrounded by blue, pink, and green planks; created by artist to represent the rays of the sun and embody the "energy of life." Outside crown perimeter painted in yellow and embellished with silver metalcraft pieces. Rectangular middle plank with indentation and southwest designs carved in blue, pink, and green. Followed by two green triangular shaped rays on each side, two planks with indenations and a blue and pink southwest patterned carved in, two squiggly shaped pink rays, and finally two planks with sharpened edges that contain an arrow shaped southwest design, carved into planks and painted in blue and pink.
Part of the Las Calacas Coronas series originally created as a performance piece. Currently on a perfomance hiatus because of the ill fit on performers.
