Carved by artist in the Traditional Japanese Noh mask style. The Japanese Mihon Noh Mask series are comprised of masks that represent demons, gods, and ghosts from ancient Buddhist mythology. Noh mask's are typically carved with cypress then painted over, but mahagony was chosen to create a distinct style for the artist.
Goblin face. Two forehead wrinkles carved with an inch of distance between them. Eyebrows carved in a hook shape with the hook pointing towards the forehead, at the start of the eyebrows. Circular eyes and pupils, with pupils carved and punched out. Tip of the nose is lighter than the the rest of the mask and has two distinct wood grain lines, following the curve of the frontal tip. Closed mouth with the corners carved out in a rounded shape.
