While recovering from a medical procedure, I found it difficult to work at an easel or on larger watercolor pieces. During that time, I had just purchased a set of metallic watercolors and decided that fish—shimmering, fluid, and full of movement—would be the perfect subject to experiment with.
The metallic paints captured their iridescence beautifully, and I was delighted with how many of these small studies turned out—each one reflecting both the light of the paints and the joy of creating in a more intimate, manageable way.
