On a drive to Cape Vincent, New York, I came upon this winery near the end of the journey. The light was extraordinary—spilling across the open field and illuminating the yellow barn in a way that felt both serene and striking. I couldn’t resist; I turned the car around, took a series of photographs, and knew immediately this scene was destined to become a painting.
Though structures are not my usual subject, I embraced the challenge of capturing the barn’s perspective. What captivated me most were the long, sweeping shadows stretching across the field, and the gentle stream glinting at the forefront of the image—details that grounded the composition and drew me deeper into the landscape.
