Born to Dutch dairy farmers in LA, lived life cross-culturally, especially in Africa , now pursuing my first love, making art.
MessageMy family was living in a village in Côte d’Ivoire, learning the language and culture.
After some years of home-schooling, our kids wanted to go to boarding school.
And before long, one of our daughters developed anorexia.
Those were dark days, as we tried our best to help. In the end, we had to evacuate to the US.
Thankfully, we found a wonderful psychiatrist with expertise in eating disorders who knew how to help.
And, surprise surprise, I found myself living in range of Fuller School of Intercultural Studies. I’d been reading about cross-cultural communication avidly for years, and I got to start an MA.
The profs at Fuller were my heroes, the library heaven, and the students from all over the world made me feel at home, at last, in California. So much stimulation my head ached.
And doors opened to me ever after that I never dreamt possible.
Ans so life has difficult bits followed by wonderful bits, and you never know when or why the change is going to happen.
That’s why I keep looking up, waiting for something good to drop out of the sky. As Aretha sang, “My change is going to come, oh yes it will.”
The kicker in this painting is that sometimes I see a pyramid, sometimes a valley. Ups and downs, just like life!
