Undulation No. 1 is a large-scale floor sculpture composed of a single sheet of steam-bent birch plywood, shaped into a sweeping, asymmetrical wave. The form rises and falls in gentle peaks, creating a sense of suspended motion within the stillness of the gallery. Its clean, unbroken surface invites both close inspection of the wood grain and a broader contemplation of space, light, and material. Renkov’s process blends traditional woodworking techniques with experimental bending methods, pushing the boundaries of how a rigid material can behave.
