Eclipse Chamber is an immersive light installation by Aleric Voss that simulates the visual and emotional gravity of a total solar eclipse. A precision-engineered LED array projects a seamless black disc with a golden corona onto the ceiling, created using a combination of warm-spectrum LEDs and custom optical diffusers. The light is tuned to subtly shift in intensity, mimicking the slow breathing of daylight during an actual eclipse. Visitors recline on low black mats arranged across the oak floor, each provided with soundproof headphones that block out all ambient noise, simulating the profound silence of empty space. The work transforms the gallery into a space of suspended time, where cosmic scale is brought into intimate proximity. Voss’s approach blends technological precision with phenomenological inquiry, producing an atmosphere that is both scientifically exacting and profoundly contemplative.
