Uira ana te ao mā runga i te Ruapekapeka, ko te atatū, 'the heavens are glowing above Ruapekapeka', 16 March 2021 by Dr Rangihiroa Panoho Image: I stayed with my Ngāti Manu whānaunga in Kawakawa in order to drive south to specifically document sunrise over Ruapekapeka. It exceeded expectation. The sky put on an enormous display that hints at the days of explosive sky over the Tapuaeharuru Ranges when the British military began pounding Ruapekapeka Pā, 17 December 1845. There are other photographic images that show the remains of Kawiti's great engineering feat at Ruapekapeka.
