Ngā Mahi Aroha i tuku iho is a 9 metre long mural sized landscape featuring a river that unites the Taumarere and Kapiti regions through whakapapa links joining Ngāti Manu and Ngāti Raukawa ki Tonga. The primary whakapapa lines explored concern Pōmarenui II and Whatanui respectively and the marriage of the latter leader's daughter Ranginganana to Pōmare. The painting was exhibited in Waikanae which is just up the road from an historic battle site involving Te Rangihaeta at Pauatahanui. There are references to the Ruapekapeka site on the left of the image including reference to the sacking of the Ōtuihu, the pā of Pōmare, his Ngāti Manu people and their wealth by the British Navy. The painting 'Nightmares Begin With These Numbers' looks more closely at the injustice of this sacking and the subsequent kidnapping and imprisonment of Pōmare and his daughter and the taking of the land (currently being negotiated with between a Pākeha landowner and the Crown in favour of a return of the asset to Ngāti Manu.
