Wānanga with my Ngāti Manu relatives thinking and talking and walking our ancestor Whetoi Pōmare II’s pā site, Taumarere Headland, Bay of Islands, 176 years to the day the British destroyed Otuihu, 30 April 1845 at the beginning of the Northern Wars. This event is illustrated in the first panel of the painting Ngā mahi aroha and is the central subject of the large painting on canvas, 'Nightmares follow.. they always begin...'
