Nunca Más 'never again', Northern Land Wars, 2020-July 2021 by Dr Rangihiroa Panoho Image: This assemblage is a theme repeated in a number of the images in Ātāroa. It comprises a central rainbow form that features two maunga and two ancestral lineages central to Ngāpuhi identity. The Hokianga and the Bay of Islands sides of our whakapapa also involved alliances with or against the Crown in the 1845-1846 Northern Land Wars. These alliances and the history of resistance and support continues to hamper current Crown efforts to negotiate with Northern peoples over Treaty of Waitangi grievances.
