Dianna Anderson
Dianna is energized by capturing the essence of light en plein air with oils expressing subtle color shifts creating interpretations of those ethereal moments.
MessageI painted 'Sea Beach' on a plein air painting trip with two artist friends to Indian Point, Georgetown, Maine. They discovered this pretty spot on the Atlantic which was visible from the side of the road while exploring the area. There was a 180 degree view of the ocean's horizon line from the road. We parked and quickly walked to the water's edge hoping it was a good place to paint. Once there, the land sloped steeply downward and then became rocky cliffs as it met the shore. On closer inspection we saw a narrow foot path leading to a small, flat, grassy ledge half way down the steep bank. My friends and I agreed we would load up our painting gear and attempt the descending path while being careful to avoid the poison ivy. All three of us crammed onto the flat area intending to capture the essence of the day in our work. Our styles were so different that none of the finished pieces looked alike. I focused on the challenge to paint the constant wash of crashing waves on the rocks and sandy beach. I just loved the sight and sound of the waves below making it irresistible to paint.
