Dianna Anderson
Dianna is energized by capturing the essence of light en plein air with oils expressing subtle color shifts creating interpretations of those ethereal moments.
MessageWhen Dianna was eight years old, she received a 'Paint by Numbers' set as a gift. Over the next few years, painting that way became her hobby. Fifteen years later, she met an artist who generously gave Dianna her first oil painting lesson and she was hooked. Little did Dianna know that she had found what would turn out to be her lifelong love of painting.
Dianna earned a degree in Art Education and a Masters in Educational Leadership from the University of Southern Maine. She taught drawing, painting, sculpture, pottery, stained glass and AP Studio Art to high school students in Maine for over 21 years. Teaching was fun and offered her a great opportunity to learn even more. The school calendar provided valuable time off so that Dianna could paint. “Reflecting back on those years, I realized that I taught so that I could paint.” Throughout her career, Dianna painted weekends, school vacations and summers. Her work was exhibited in group, solo and local juried shows and for a few years, she even did the regional outdoor show circuit.
In 2014, Dianna retired from teaching so that she could devote all her time to painting. Now she spends her time en plein air (outdoors) and in her studio creating landscapes and seascapes in oils for exhibit and sale.
Dianna is an award-winning artist whose paintings can be found in private collections and juried shows across the country. She has studied with master artists in Maine, New Hampshire, Florida, and abroad from artists including among others; Stacy Barter, David P. Curtis, John MacDonald, David Lussier, Carolyn Walton and Dewitt Hardy. Dianna is a member of the American Women Artists, Oil Painters of America, the American Artists Professional League, the American Society of Marine Artists and the Naples Art Association.

Statement
"Most of my work begins en plein air so that I can express nature's grand beauty. All my life I have been in awe of the world around me. To be able to create interpretations of those ethereal moments, I pursue the interaction of light, atmosphere and color with form. Some things that inspire me include the movement of water, light quality and mood, subtle color illuminations and the character of the landscape. In my work, I strive to reveal the moment of seeing and feeling that “something special” which inspired me to paint my subject, hoping the viewer may share the experience too. It is my hope that the joy and peace I feel when I am painting transfers into my work conveying a respite of serenity to the viewer."
