"THE ESSENTIAL PLACE". About those moments when you are completely with yourself and at the same time merging with everything around you. Just being. A state beyond doing, beyond thinking. The soul is free to fly, the moment expands. Insects hum nearby, the flutter of a butterfly’s wings brushes against you. The air is warm, heavy, fragrant. Summer lies over everything: the heat, the heavy air, the shimmering movement. I am.

For this work, as well as for several pieces created shortly before, I applied most of the paint with my hands. The direct contact between skin, paint, and canvas; the immediacy with which a gesture becomes form – carries something very special, intimate. The traces of this process are clearly visible in the work.
