This original is a large-format work which truly embodies the spontaneity inherent in my artistic process.
I began with a highly gestural approach: The namesake crimson scribbles formed the very foundation. Initially, I had completely different plans, intending to follow this basis with a vibrant, multi-colored composition. In the next step, I applied colors like orange, yellow, white, and a few dark counterpoints. These elements were meant to remain distinct and clear, and subsequently be supplemented by further colors.
However, the canvas had a will of its own. At approximately this point, impulsivity and the process itself took control - resulting in an expressive, powerful outcome: The flowing, soft, mostly white fields find their counterpart in the color-intensive, dynamically scribbled lines.
This painting is a statement for the beauty of the unplanned. Despite the wildness of the white splatters and red scribbles, the deep, warm palette of yellow, orange, red, and rosé creates a strong coherence. The interplay of the monochromatic colors (within the shades of red) and the dynamic gesture paradoxically allows a deep sense of calm to emerge upon viewing, drawing the observer into the work.
I love the result, and for me, it is - once again - proof that as an artist, one must know when to surrender to one's impulses; that is when the painting itself speaks to you.
