A drawing with great presence yet mysterious by an artist with an Australia-wide reputation. Farman's work is well respected and represented in most major public collections.
This series of drawings were inspired by Nola’s time as artist-in-residence at Charles Sturt University. One of the drawings created during this time was a large black amorphous blob or cloud.
The idea was to take this black blob and allow it to gradually evolve in an unpredictable way.
Based on the idea of ambiguity, they may allude to figurative outcomes. Teetering on the figurative brink, any associations are in the mind of the beholder.
Sharp lines and slits were then introduced.
As the works developed the idea of ‘reflection’ became significant and the brooding landscape emerged, reflected in a glass-like an icy lake. This reminded the artist to years contemplating the light and representation of weather- hence the title- ‘The Evolution of Reflection’.
