Stuart Elliott’s artworks are inspired by the collision of industry with nature. ‘Red Obstacle’ conjures a dystopian landscape. The structure presented in the work holds a menacing dominance of the frame. An obstacle is ‘a thing that blocks one's way or prevents or hinders progress’. In the title, Elliott opens the viewer to the reading of multiple narratives.

The facilities depicted in ‘Red Obstacle’ and ‘Blue Obstacle’ link to Elliott’s ongoing concerns with that of fakeology, that is, the development of utterly fictional museum-like artifacts and images.
