Solomon and Sheba (Croatia)
- Lithograph
- 26.5 x 19 in
- Frank McCarthy
The poster was the first created by Frank McCarthy, who made a significant contribution to the movie industry for more than a decade. He also did a poster for the Ten Commandments (1966), found in the Blackfriars collection. The poster’s promise of an “American spectacle in color” calls attention to Hollywood’s growing global domination of film markets in the postwar era. While the film takes advantage of actual Biblical characters, King Solomon (Yul Brynner) and the Queen of Sheba (Lollobrigida), the story is entirely fictional.
