Directed by Henry Koster, known for such wholesome religious-themed fare as The Bishop’s Wife (1947); The Robe (1953); A Man Called Peter (1955); and The Singing Nun (1966), The Story of Ruth is based on a loosely-biblically-inspired script by Norman Corwin. It stars Peggy Wood as Naomi, Elana Eden as Ruth, and Stuart Whitman as Boaz. The reviewer for Variety called it “a refreshingly sincere and restrained Biblical drama, a picture that elaborates on the romantic, political and devotional difficulties encountered by the Old Testament heroine.” The poster captures this restraint while centering the titular character, hinting at the romance that will develop between Ruth and Boaz, and promoting its De Luxe and Cinemascope features.
