The Australian version of the poster for the film released in the United States as The Last Days of Sodom and Gomorrah, has everything, including lust, sensuality, sexuality, destruction, and death, all in vibrant color. Directed by Robert Aldrich (who also directed The Dirty Dozen and Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?) the film stars Stewart Granger as Lot and Pier Angeli as Lot’s wife. The film, a sword-and-sandal epic dressed as a spaghetti western, departs from the Biblical narrative, but its marketing trades in a traditional interpretation of this story that condemns Sodom and Gomorrah to destruction for sexual immorality. The poster also warns audiences (parents) that, like many stories from the Bible, this film adaptation of the Old Testament narrative is “not suitable for children.”
