Chris wrote those words about this painting — and they say more than any description could. A canoe passage between Algonquin hills in full autumn colour, the lake so still it holds a perfect mirror of the forest above. He paddled waterways like this for years, camping in the interior, watching the light change on exactly these hillsides.
The passage looks narrow. That was the point.
