Two pines on a granite island, rising against a pale sky — nothing else. Chris strips the Georgian Bay scene down to its most essential elements here: rock, tree, water, light. No autumn colour, no storm drama, just the quiet permanence of the shield landscape in its most spare season.
A study, as the title says — but one that needs nothing added to it.
“Island Inlet Study” was created around 2009, it represents Chris James Cooper’s late-career mature style. At this stage, his work was characterized by a deep, "architectural" understanding of the landscape—focusing on the structural strength of the rock and the resilience of the trees.
