Fugue takes its name from music — a single theme introduced, then echoed across interweaving voices. The landscape it’s drawn from is French River, Georgian Bay, Ontario, where Chris spent hours by kayak and canoe with his wife, paddling the same stretches of rock and pine in search of a scene worth painting.
Painted in 2009, Fugue is one of the last works Chris completed — rock, water, and pine repeating and answering one another across the canvas, built the way a piece of music is built, one theme returning in a new light.
Oil on canvas, signed on the back of the frame.
