The French River follows an ancient canoe route through the Ontario shield — paddled by Indigenous peoples, then by French voyageurs, then by generations of canoeists who came after. Chris painted this stretch of shoreline in 2009, its layered granite ledges and windswept pines reflected in the still water below, the sky pale and quiet overhead.
A wide, unhurried painting for a wide, unhurried river.
