I fell in love with a vase of peonies in a lovely welcoming AirBnB on the island of Texel in the Netherlands. They were in bud when we arrived and opened up on the first morning to a glorious display. I chose one to concentrate on and the vector art work took around six months, off and on, due to my frequent ill health. This is a dramatic version of the original monochrome peony head with glowing inner light and dark fiery coal effect using blend modes and recolouring. It conveys my deep distress at the death of a family friend that I heard about during that stay.
