Fourth piece from a series based on tree bark observed during daily walks. This is the sister piece to 'Spirits in the Wood, 3' and I used the same approach - juxtaposing architectural shapes with very natural textures from tree bark. I love to push the elements as far as I can so that the original input - a simple picture of the surface of a tree – eventually becomes my paintbrush. The placement, size, blend mode of each reduplicated shape in this digital work offers me something like the considered use of oil and brush strokes as the elements layer up. A complex dance between digital and natural worlds.
