I love the scent of gorse which always takes me back to my childhood in Wales. This piece is an homage to that resilient and almost constantly blooming plant. I found this particular one in the Cheshire hills near my husband's family home. The Welsh have a saying that when the gorse stops blooming, kissing is out of season. As it blooms nearly all year round you can draw your own conclusion about the romantic Welsh nature. So 'Gorse with Thorns' has some special meaning for me, memories, scents, nostalgia for childhood, love of my land of birth and of my husband, and, of course, those sharp thorns of life as well!
