When I made the original sketch of a growing plant in a daily sketch journal, we were entering the pandemic, and my life had been turned upside down by illness. I returned to this elegant plant much later as part of what became 'Plant Series 1: Abstract Line Cavendish'. I chose a joyous combination of buttery yellow and green to convey something about the resilience of the human spirit, growth, and overcoming loss and change.
