This is one of a pair of pictures based a journal sketch made on in December 2020. Over two years later, I had started to play with the idea of repetition and identity - a theme that would become more prominent later in pieces such as the 'Rescue Petunias' series - and building on the increasing understanding of the digital art techniques of blend modes and transparency. Both the blue pieces are subtly textured with, on close inspection, small triangular shapes layered on to the central image and a reduplication of it in a different colour and blend mode. The effect is intentionally unsettling to the eye as it moves in and out from one larger plant to a smaller and to playful hints of light and shade. Something of life's uncertainty here and wanting to make shapes make sense.
