One of a pair of pictures made from the 12th sketch in my pandemic journal of one plant growing through six months. This sketch had a lot of structure, movement and texture so it works well with the contrasting digital elements - here are a stark rectangle forming a distant, empty horizon and the hand drawn vector shapes taken from the main elements of the sketch. The pot and earth remain shadowy as the sketch shows through in the lower half of the picture. The elongated growing tip of the digital plant has become symbolic of a road to a new place in the far distance. The partner piece, in red, is faintly sinister but the feel in this one is gentler and has something of a mid-century book illustration to it. I loved the way the blend mode picked up the pencil marks and the lilac background so that, overall, it turned out well-balanced, flowing and harmonious taking the eye from foreground to distant places and back.
