Not For Sale
Plate, 8 inches diameter. Black transfer. No maker's mark. The maker is determined by the registration diamond date, which is 21 June 1881, the date when Gildea & Walker registered a printed pattern. The pattern consists of a sheet pattern with several Japanese mon, all filled with flowers and foliage, with the exception of one. One mon features a partial flower rising above roiling waves. Behind the mon is an all-over sheet of scrolls and flourishes.
In 1878 James Gildea joined the partnership of Bates & Walker. In 1881 Bates left the partnership and Gildea & Walker continued together. In 1885 James Gildea continued the business alone.
