Artist's Resource Trust (A.R.T.) Fund

Artist’s Resource Trust was established in 1996 to provide support to the creative work of mid-career (aged 35 and older) visual artists who have demonstrated substantial commitment, development, and quality in their work. Since 1996, annual contributions to A.R.T. have made the grant awards possible. Now the A.R.T. Fund is building an endowment so that its work can continue in perpetuity. Make a tax-deductible contribution to the A.R.T. Endowment.

OPEN CALL “Beneath the Horizon” and “Cosmic Bodies”

Cosmic Bodies & Beneath the Horizon is a dual group show organized by 2023 CalArts REEF artists-in-residence, Caleb Craig and Dongpu Ling.

Beneath the Horizon is a group exhibition merging the coastal diving community and emerging artists in order to explore the ocean as a vital part of our ecosystem. We are challenging artists to reflect on the ocean’s significance in providing food and resources and the implications of continuing our current environmental policies worldwide. We encourage artists to consider the impact of climate change and other environmental factors on the ocean, as well as the effects of human behavior on the ocean and marine life. This exhibition aims to use art as a tool to inspire and encourage viewers to reflect on our relationship with the ocean and the potential ways art might be used to mitigate the serious implications of continuing with our current environmental policies worldwide.

Cosmic Bodies is an exhibition inviting artists to respond to the body as cosmic – defined in Legacy Russell’s “Glitch Feminism” as “infinitely vast”. We challenge artists to submit work that considers bodies that encrypt, stitch, camouflage, and defy boundaries. We encourage artists to consider various ways of tracing, representing, erasing, choreographing, and exploring human and more than human bodies. We invite work dealing with microscopic and macroscopic body ecologies, traces, paradoxes, points of contact, and porosity.

Selected works will be exhibited at The Reef, Maker City LA in October, 2023. We are looking for works demonstrating high creativity, technical skill, and conceptual depth. Please note that all works must be original and created within the last two years.

Excessive Measures

Dripping. With. Excess... Excessive Measures that is. We are looking for multi-faceted work that explores those times where things go over the line. Way over the line... artwork could be over the top, gaudy, rude, flashy, disproportionately-sized, and mouthy, in-your-face, pissed off as hell at the world, climb to the rooftop of the building and scream. When people say things like "follow best practice", and used other dumbed down language, does this make you cringe inside? Do you dislike monotony and plain grey rooms? Just know you're not alone, this show can help. It's time to let it all out.

We accept artwork from any medium*, including Student, Emerging, Mid-Career, and/or Professional Artists. Work should follow and/or challenge the theme of the exhibit, can be evocative, and above all, should be attractive for audiences and collectors. Sculptural and 3D works are encouraged to apply.

Vestige Concept Gallery specializes in curated monthly mixed exhibition opportunities that appeal to a diverse range of artists, audiences, and buyers. This is a juried visual art competition and exhibition that is open to two-dimensional figurative artists (referencing the human figure), who are over the age of 18, working in painting, drawing, printmaking, or fiber.

This year's juror is Nicole M. Santiago. She holds a BFA in studio art from Indiana University and an MFA in painting from the University of New Hampshire. She is a Professor of Art at the College of William and Mary, where she teaches life drawing, drawing, color theory, and 2D design.

Santiago's works consist of semi-autobiographical paintings, drawings, and prints portraying mundane domestic scenes. However, she hints at a more expansive narrative, thinly veiled by the everyday detritus that clutters her painted spaces.

During her career, Santiago has exhibited widely, showing in nearly 140 exhibitions. Her works have been reproduced in many art publications, including The Artist's Magazine, Art New England, INPA (International Painting Annual), and Fine Art Connoisseur. She is the recipient of full-fellowship residencies at the Vermont Studio Center in Johnson, VT, and the Ballinglen Artist Foundation in Ballycastle, Ireland. Most recently, Santiago was awarded first prize at the Bethesda Painting Awards in Bethesda, MD.

Santiago will attend the exhibition's opening reception on Saturday, October 28, to give remarks and select prize winners

Experimentation, Exploration, and Exuberance: Give It a Try!

South Haven Center for the Arts in South Haven, Michigan
Artists can all benefit from stepping outside of their comfort zone and plunging into the experimental. With the opportunity to share exploratory works with other artists and the community, new discoveries sprout. The call to “Give it a try!” is an invitation to share new ideas and techniques through the creation and sharing of experimental works. Artists can answer this call by creating with a new medium, trying an unfamiliar artistic discipline, or creating something for a brand-new purpose: the possibilities for multi-media experimentation are endless. You get to decide how you will “Give It a Try!”
When submitting works, artists should be prepared to answer the question, “How is this art experimental?” This question is important. It’s an invitation to discover, play, create, and rediscover through the act of investigating, making, and sharing 2D, 3D, and digital exploratory works. This show isn’t just about experimenting. Co-Existence – Netii Apa Storytellers Project

Calling Artists who are exploring the intersection of art, ecology and community engagement.

Artists are invited by Nashulai Maasai Conservancy to participate in archiving the community’s oral tradition and to promote their model of sustainable conservation.

To ensure the fast-disappearing Maasai oral traditions are protected and archived, Nashulai is developing the Stories Café. Named Netii Apa, meaning Once Long Ago, this will be where the stories of the Maasai ways of life will be shared, and bear witness to a harmonious relationship with the land.

This Artist in Residence enables artists to collaborate with each other and the community in order to creatively correlate the stories that are being gathered at Nashulai: narratives that celebrate ancestral knowledge and 21st-century innovation.

The program will follow the progression of Netii Apa research and community centre, which the community hopes will serve as an international hub to preserve and share their stories. The residency will challenge artists to think critically about their role in addressing environmental and social issues. It will encourage them to explore new perspectives, push their artistic boundaries, and develop projects with a lasting impact.

Light Up 2024

During the Icelandic winter, the days are short and the nights long and January is the darkest month of the year. To welcome in 2024 we wish once again to ‘Light Up’ our town by engaging artists to create artworks with light, through the use of LED’s, projection, shadows, reflections etc, indoors and outdoors around the town of Skagaströnd. The event will culminate in an art walk event on the 27th and 28th January.

Skagaströnd is a small seaside village in the northwest of Iceland with a population around 450. The NES Artist Residency has been in operation for 15 years and during this time has hosted approximately 1200 artists from 52 countries. We have access to abandoned buildings, interesting structures and dark/windowless spaces that would work well with light and projections.

We are looking initially for expressions of interest from artists detailing the type of ‘light works’ they will most likely produce and the equipment required with estimated costs. In further discussion with these artists we will select those with works and material needs that will most suit the environment and budget we have. At least one place will be allocated to an artist who can provide an interactive work that will engage children

Call For Entry: Lost and Found

Lost and Found is an exhibition exploring the concept of abandoned, lost, or forgotten people, places, and things. In creative parlance, a "found object" is an item "lost" by its owner and rediscovered by chance or circumstance by another. The found object is typically granted significance in the mind's eye of the finder if they determine the relic to hold intrinsic value or symbolic qualities. "Abandoned" is a catch-all phrase for vacant or unused spaces and structures, often found by urban explorers as they're left exposed to the elements and reclaimed by nature. "Forgotten" is perhaps the most uncertain circumstance, leading to moral dilemmas, legal consequences, and material potential. What is the principle of forgetfulness, and how does this concept challenge the notion of ownership? What are the boundaries of the property; at what moment does the finder, or thief, become the keeper? Is it conceivable to lose sight of where you came from, who you are, and who or what you have become? If so, is it possible to find — yourself?

Lost and Found is an international juried group exhibition open to artists ages 18 and older. All forms of two-dimensional, traditional, and non-conventional art media (e.g., digital and film photography, video, oil painting, watercolor, acrylic, mixed media, collage, drawing media such as graphite, charcoal, pencils, pen and ink, arts and crafts, etc.) are welcome for submission.

Open Call to Curators and Artists

Request for proposals:
The Appalachian Center for Craft (ACC) is pleased to receive submission proposals from artists/craftspeople and curators for exhibitions for 2024 and 2025.

ACC Galleries exhibit traditional and contemporary fine craft by emerging, mid- career, and established craft artists. We are seeking well-developed themes that highlight mastery in craftsmanship, featuring new work, pushing the boundaries of craft. Exhibitions can be individual or group shows. If applying as a curator or on behalf of a group, we ask that one person act as a liaison. This will entail collecting paperwork from all parties exhibiting, communicating with the group the requirements and deadlines of the ACC, etc.

At the ACC we are interested in cultivating and showcasing work that strengthens the role of craft in contemporary culture and to create a space for craft artists and curators to experiment freely, beyond their usual craft custom or practice. Artists and curators will be given the opportunity to present work which may not be easily presented in conventional craft venues. Experimentation may be in the areas of style, technique and/or concept. Thus the definition/expectations of contemporary craft may be further explored and investigated, and challenging conversations may ensue.

The selection committee will be looking for bodies of work/installations that are cohesive, well- considered, informative, challenge the artist, the curator, the viewing public, and which promote craft and contemporary craft practices. Exhibitions are two months in duration and a $200 honorarium per exhibition is offered to help support shipping/delivery of artwork. Artwork is insured while on the premises.
