EVERYTHING BLUE

Blue  --  a color that has been regarded with reverence since ancient times.

A multitude of unique shades of Blue exist including cyan, navy, aqua, azure, cobalt and indigo. For centuries, Blue has been recognized for positive and negative symbolic and psychological values. Blue represents freedom, intuition, and imagination. Blue also reveals meanings of trust, admiration, loyalty and faith. On the other hand, Blue is often associated with coldness, loneliness and sadness.

As an artist, how do you utilize Blue? Does Blue permeate the entire image? Or is Blue used in a small section of artwork -- in clothing, decor or other objects? Or in elements of Nature? Or is Blue an abstract structural design? No restrictions exist on subject matter or style. Let's see your special visions of Everything Blue.

STRATA

Strata refers to layers. The layers can be inferred as literal (in the material usage or striated apperance) or symbolic (as in layers of meaning and complexity). How is layering expressed through your work? Does your work reflect the layered aspects of our pandemic impacted world? Does your work represent the complexity of current world traumas & socioeconomic striations? Or perhaps layering is an aspect of your process to achieve expression & beauty? As with all Verum's calls for art, the curator never seeks to drive the work, the hope is to unveil unique visions. All mediums and modes of expression are welcome. The term Strata may be interpreted in many ways, not necessarily meant to be a literal elucidation. Verum Ultimum Gallery tasks artists to define “STRATA” for this first edition of this exhibition.

The Figure

The figure has been, from humankind’s earliest attempts at mark-making to the present day, a central occupation of art. The figure commands our attention because it is something most of us see every day, whether looking at ourselves or others, but is at the same time deeply strange, beautiful, and intriguing. Our figures are an index of time and mark our movement through space. As shown by its role in art history, the capturing of the figure admits an almost infinite variety of methods, styles and movements; it can be representational or abstract, suggested by a pencil-stroke or carved in stone.

Here’s what we know:

Top 18 museums in the US have collections that are 87% male & 85% white (Nmwa.org).
Art by women sells for 50% less than men’s (SSRN paper).
Women make up 16% of the NFT art market and 5% of NFT sales.

These are the current statistics and we're here to change it. As a Resident, you will transform a body of work that you’ve wanted to make–or have already made–into an NFT collection. The collections will cover themes that connect our creators to the world’s most pertinent topics. We are here to guide you through the process, all the way from onboarding through building and launching a powerful NFT project.

440 Gallery announces a Call for Artists for the 2022 Annual Theme Show Sequential Synergy: The Art of Comics. Artwork selected for exhibition for the show will be on display at our Brooklyn gallery space July 9 – July 29, 2022. Artists at all levels of professionalism and experience are invited to submit work in all mediums.

Sequential Synergy: The Art of Comics celebrates the diverse ways comics artists, aka cartoonists, utilize the real estate of the blank page. For over a century, artists have been creating comics to tell stories about caped crusaders, historical figures, themselves or something else entirely. Sequential Synergy will explore the forms that comics can be and how they affect us; we will discover that cartoonists are not merely visual artists, but are writers, designers, directors, and most of all, acute observers of human behavior.

Acceptable submissions include, but are not limited to the following types of images: cover art, splash pages, full pages of sequential art. The submitted images may be excerpted from a larger work.

Applications can be extensive. After all, organizations need to ensure their funding will be in good hands.

Be prepared to present yourself in the best light by having your information and images in an organized manner—and avoiding the last-minute stress of scrambling to find files.

Art inventory software like Artwork Archive can help you get ready to apply for grants and opportunities without the hassle.

With Artwork Archive, you can manage jury-ready photos of your work and their inventory details, as well as generate professional documents like portfolio pages and inventory reports. If asked for a list of past exhibitions and competitions to validate your professional status, you can see your complete show history with the click of a button. Just think of the time you’ll save not having to remember or dig up all of this information!

You can even add application deadlines to the “My Schedule” feature and receive email reminders before it’s time to submit so you never miss out on these opportunities.
